Local Police on "Twitter"

Selby Police Community Support Officer, Laura Simpson is the latest officer from North Yorkshire Police to keep in touch with her local community through Twitter.

Twitter is an online social networking service and micro blogging service that enables users to send and read text-based posts of up to 140 characters known as tweets.

She will be providing regular updates about policing events, crime and general information about issues relevant to her beat.

PCSO Simpson said: “Communicating with local people is key in helping to prevent and detect crime. We use many ways to communicate with our communities, it is important that we use all available means to reach as many people as possible"

“Twitter is a great way of getting information out to residents quickly and concisely, and it doesn’t cost anything.”

North Yorkshire Police Ringmaster System

North Yorkshire Police Community messaging system (RINGMASTER) enables us to issue messages related to crime, missing persons/property or simply advise of community meetings via email, test, voice or fax.

Examples of use of the system may be circulation of details of a vehicle we wish to trace or a description of a person seen in the vicinity of a crime, or simply to inform you of the types of crime that have occurred in your area so that you can take the relevant crime prevention measures and advise others to do the same.

Remember, that just because details of a vehicle or person are circulated by the police, it does not necessarily mean they have committed a crime or offence, as often people can be acting quite lawfully in some cases and may be potential witnesses.

We advise you how to report any information or suspicious activity to the police as soon as possible using the new non- urgent number 101 or 999 in urgent cases. Where the information provided relates to a specific incident, there will an incident reference contained within the message for you to provide.

With your vigilance, you can help North Yorkshire Police make a significant difference in preventing and detecting crime. To register please download and complete a Ringmaster Form and return it to Eggborough Police Station.

Thank you
