What is the Community Emergency Plan?
Emergencies
can hit at anytime - whether its flooding, severe weather conditions,
utility problems or major road accidents. Appropriate planning by all
those involved, including Police, Ambulance and Fire services could
help reduce the impact of an emergency and aid recovery time of the
incident.
North
Yorkshire County Council's Emergency Planning Unit, in partnership with
Selby District Council has produced the Community Emergency Plan which
provides an effective framework for local parishes to list information
about important resources and useful contact details that may be essential
during the response and recovery of a local emergency.
The
initial response to a major incident is normally provided by the Police,
Fire and Ambulance services, who will call for assistance from local
authorities as and when needed. Experience has shown the need for local
parish councils and communities to have procedures in place for incidents
in times where the emergency services are stretched or have difficulty
providing resources.
The
objective of an emergency plan is to provide a single source of local
information to enable a community to organise an appropriate and structured
response in the event of an emergency. The plan should include a list
of telephone numbers of skilled individuals and the resources they have
to offer.
The
Community Emergency Plan could be of immeasurable help in taking the
correct action at the outset of an emergency and be very useful in dealing
with some of the day-to-day problems that occur in communities.
